Welcome to our class page! My name is Hope York Oliver. For the 2019-2020 school year I will be teaching Reading and Language Arts with Science and Social Studies integration to 4th and 5th grade students. I am a 4th grade homeroom teacher, as well as the Tech Coach for your school. I am very excited to be teaching another year of Reading and Language Arts, and look forward to the challenge of  integrating our Science and Social Studies standards throughout the year. I have spent all 8 years of my teaching career at Watauga Elementary. In that time I have also taught third grade, second grade, fifth grade and now fourth grade. Most of my time has been spent as an inclusion classroom teacher, which I have always loved. I hope your students will enjoy their time in my room this year!
I am often asked why I chose to be a teacher and my answer is always the same..because as a child I HATED school. I know that sounds like an odd response, but when I think about what I am called to do in life, my heart always gives me the same answer. I wanted to lead students in learning to love school. I had amazing teachers throughout my years, but school was never something I was excited about and I thought if I could lead one student in changing how they felt about this necessary evil in life then I've done my job. Every year I have students tell me how much they hate coming to school, but there is usually always one that changes that believe and learns to love learning and the experience of learning.I of course, hope I can do that for all my students this year. Everyone has to have WHY. They are the reason I come in to the classroom everyday ready to conquer the challenges of public education. So, thank you for sharing them with me and thank you for continuing to support them in their learning. I look forward to having another great year!
